Game rules Kubb

The purpose of the game is to knock over the King. This can be attempted only when you have knocked down all of your opponent’s ‘Guard Kubbs’ using the throwing Batons. But beware, knock over the King before all of the Guards and you have lost the game!

Below is a simple guide on how to play this game. But first set up the game like the picture below and make two teams.

Once you have set up the playing field the game can begin. Team A begins with throwing the 6 batons from behind the baseline at the opposition's Kubbs which are at the opposite end of the pitch.

After all of the Batons have been thrown the opposing team (Team B) has to gather up any Kubbs that have been knocked down. This team then needs to throw them back to team A's side of the field. If they are thrown back into play they are called field Kubbs. Any Kubbs which land outside of the area or not passing the centre line can be re-thrown by team B. Team B must now throw the 6 Batons and knock down all of the Field Kubbs before they then attempt to knock down Team A’s Baseline Kubbs.

If any Field Kubbs are still standing after Team B have thrown the 6 Batons, Team A can throw the Batons from a line level with the Field Kubb closest to the centre line on their next turn.

The game then continues with play being alternated between the two teams until one team's entire baseline Kubbs have been knocked down. The winner of the game is the team who knocks down all the Kubbs in their opponents half of the pitch and on the baseline and then knocks over the king. But if a team knocks down the king prior to knocking down all of the Kubbs that team immediately will lose the game.

Below are a few rules which need to be followed during play.

  • Batons must be thrown underarm and straight on (not spun) - they must be held at one end. A Baton may knock over more than one Kubb at a time.

  • If one Kubb falls so that it is resting on another Kubb or a throwing stick, it is deemed to have been knocked over.

  • Baseline Kubbs knocked down whilst Field Kubbs are still standing can be stood up again.

  • Any Kubbs which have been knocked down must be thrown from your own baseline.

  • You can only attempt to knock down the King from your Baseline, not from the line level with a Field Kubb. If you knock down the King when Kubbs remain standing you lose the game.

  • The King can only be attacked if your team has still 2 batons left.

Game rules Ring Toss

This one is really simple: whoever aims the best, and thus gets the most points, wins the game.

Game rules Jeu de Boules

You’re welcome to make up your own rules as you go, or you can play by the official rules listed below.

You can play boules in two teams. Depending on your group size, these are your team options:

  • Tete-a-tete: two teams with a single player, every player has 3 balls.

  • Doublette: two teams with two players each, every player has three balls.

  • Triplette: two teams of three players each, every player has two balls.

How to win?

A game consists of several rounds and the game ends when a team has scored 13 points

Score points by throwing your team’s balls nearer to the jack (the small ball) than the other team’s best throw. For every ball that is closer to the jack than the closest ball of the other team, the winning team receives 1 point. The losing team doesn’t get any points.

How to play?

Each team picks a type of balls.

The game always starts by throwing the jack (the small ball). The first ball is thrown by the first team, the second ball by the second team. Now, the team whose ball is furthest from the jack keeps their turn until they throw a ball closest to the jack . Should they fail, the first team can throw their remaining balls. A round is finished when all the balls have been played.

The points are added up and written down in someone’s (phone)notes.
